Nokwanda Mchunu holds a National Diploma in Agriculture from Cedara College of Agriculture as well as relevant experience in the field. She is a passionate woman and a change agent with a social side in her that wants to bring change in the community where she is based, by creating job opportunities for young people within the community. Living in a rural community has many disadvantages, one of which is unavailability of affordable fresh meat supply especially for low income earning families. This was the inspiration behind this business, Nokwanda wanted her community to have access to quality meat without having to travel long distances to town and purchase at affordable prices as they will be purchasing directly from the producer.
The business started in a home garage into a processing kitchen, with a lot of hard work, they recently obtained new work premises and equipment for the business and purchased a bakkie for deliveries. Pink Print Farm Produce is an eco-friendly business that produces a ton of meat per week. Expanding during the lock down period has made it a little difficult for them to reach more markets, they hope for an increase in supply as the lock down regulations gradually ease and most of their clients are allowed to operate. They have taken strict hygiene protocols in ensuring absolute food safety and the safety of people. These protocols include:
- Purchasing ingredients from certified suppliers
- Proper storage facilities with products stored at HACCP approved standards – although they are not yet approved for ISO 22000(HACCP) they adhere to prescribed requirements
- Ensure absolute minimal handling of cash through encouraging EFT payments and e-wallet transactions
- Clients are encouraged to place orders through WhatsApp, Telephone or e-mail, delivery will be made at the door step utilizing a well-equipped and sanitized delivery vehicle.
